Signora Cabello, winner of this year’s Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, added another Group 2 victory to her name in Sunday’s Darley Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte.

The daughter of Camacho, who is trained by John Quinn and owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds was the only filly in the field and settled in second behind the Norfolk Stakes runner-up, Pocket Dynamo, before hitting the front in the last furlong and seeing off a late charge from the previously unbeaten, Sexy Metro to win by a neck.

Her trainer, John Quinn “It was a very gutsy performance. She beat the colts, she fended them off and was going away at the line. We are absolutely thrilled,”.

The filly, who was bred by Diomed Bloodstock ltd, is out of the Group 3 Princess Margret Stakes runner-up Journalist, making her a half-sister to black-type performers La Presse, Emirates Girl and Plagiarism.   She was bought by Richard Knight and Sean Quinn for a mere 20,000gns as a yearling in the Tattersalls October Book 3 Yearling Sale and has since gone on to win 4 of her 5 starts, accumulating over £160,000 in prize money.

She will now be aimed at the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny at Deuville in August, with the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes being another big race target.  She is also entered in the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (Group 2) at York.
